trying to take more photos

So i have been trying to take more photos, but on a fairly regular basis I only have my phone with me, although it seems that the phone has become the new medium for photographers and film makers.
Hell the new iphone is supposed to have an 8mp camera or something crazy like that.
I remember my first digital camera was only 3mp, but still took some good photos
the only thing that bothers me about the phone camera is you don't have many options for image control.

pick which one was done with my phone

night shots

the other night I took a walk up the hill,
Iwas feeling rather lonley and I hadnt heard from Holly for a bit.
these past few weeks have been rather difficult. and the loneliness is starting to crush at my soul just a bit. I know Holly is having an amazing time, I just wish I could talk to her more. I trust her and I love her, and I know that our love is not something she is going to give up on so quickly. its just difficult, being so far away. but perhaps this will strengthen our love. but still I am having doubts that it was the right choice, i think only for the level of distraction its causing me, Its difficult to work, when you just cant stop thinking about the girl of your dreams, but I have to push on. less than a month before i am back in her arms. and then only a month before shes back home!
Anyhow these are some night photos i took

posted from colorado

what i love about being in the middle of nowhere is it gives you time to think, the downside is you might go a bit stir crazy.
I think if i ever do the central city thing again, i will need a car.

I made an interesting discovery on the internet today. i found this http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/80beats/2011/06/22/new-camera-lets-you-focus-photos-after-the-fact/

seems kind of interesting, if you read further you will note that the software that comes with the camera can be used to transform the image to 3D.
although its not without hiccups I think this technology can have a huge application on media in the theatre,
but it will probably makes some lazy photographers

Central city

so I made it to central city Colorado, I am the video guy for the third show of the opera and i have to say I am quite nervous. this week is going to be make it or break it time. and i have untill Tuesday to get it all sorted out.
then on Wednesday I  think i am going to grab my camera and pick a direction and walk for a while, hopefully i will come upon an abandoned mine or something cool like that. should make for some good photos.
or i get horribly lost.
either way its going to be an adventure

I decided to take the opertunity to get a cool shot of Holly standing in the hall back lit by the emergency lights.

i have been slacking on the updates

it seems that time to post in this Blog is scarce these days, what with the amount of time i need to apply to school, and my desire to maintain my relationship with my significant other.
but i promise i will try to update more often. again.

on that note let me speak briefly on what i have learned this past week.

when certain people are stressed out, they will take out their stress on you, if you misstep even slightly. and when people with that personality trait are put with similar people then it will make the misplaced aggression even worse.
these people have a problem, but its not mine.
but if you are one of these people, and you choose a career in theatre, i believe you might have made a foolish mistake, because during tech week you will get pissed off at people for no reason, and then those people will never want to work with you again, and they will tell their friends, and they will tell their friends etc etc...
and for some people an "im sorry im stressed" just doesn't cut it the 5th and 6th time.

and now thats out of my system.

i have been taking photos for this show i am working on there will be a huge media component to it.
heres a taste. the only photoshoping that was done was adding the grain and turing it to B/W

Weekend post part 2

This post brought to you by missing Fridays post.

I took this photo When we rented a car for the day, at the end of our trip we went up to signal hill to view the city at night.
I took quite a few photos, but this one came out the best.
i like how the different types of light give such an array of different types of ugly yellow and magenta.
Also the Cars driving past give a very neat effect

Christoph Gielen

I discovered Christoph while on CNN of all places. He is an aerial Photographer who is making artistic photos of Americas Suburbs. i think the photos are awesome, and the message behind them is not heavy handed.
Its Almost reminiscent of Edward Burtynskys work. where the artist is examining Mans interaction with the landscape.

Photomerge

been experimenting with photomerge when i have some spare time.
it basically does panoramas for you, which is convenient, but i have been trying to do a big photo with all the dancers in 9, but its not working out exactly how i expected...
perhaps this warrants more trial.
heres the one i did of the players theatre during tech weekend

Disposable cameras

22 Experiments with disposable cameras
I had almost forgot that these still exist.
while looking at these pictures it makes me want to go out and get a disposable camera right now!
i might just do that.
also i think it would be interesting to do an entire project with a disposable camera...

and photo shop of course

You need to check this guy out

Normally i am opposed to photos of the homeless, and photos of cats.
i find that they are a bit too cliche but Christophe Huets work is amazing.
bonus points for a nicely done website.
the photos themselves were done by other artists and he did the photo shop work, but they are still impressive none the less.

Seriously check it out
