Long beach Public transportation Sucks

Yeah the title pretty much says it all.

Heres a math problem for you to work out.

i waited at a bus stop that has 5 buses that head in the direction i needed to go, today each bus is supposed to come once every 20 minutes. in the 5 minutes it took me to walk down the street i saw 1 bus drive past, i then sat and waited for 40 minutes until another bus showed up.

How many buses should have passed in the time i waited?

also to make maters worse my headphones broke while i was walking to the stop

and it was too sunny to play my DS

to make matters worse while i was on the bus a fat balding middle aged man picked a fight with a little old lady who was trying to get off the bus. he was blocking the exit and she asked him nicely to move a few times, he was ignoring her, and when she tried to squeeze through he blew up at her and started yelling.
it boggles my mind how rude some people are here.

IN OTHER NEWS

Dead space, very good, the ending was slightly predictable but i still jumped so it did its job, please see previous post for my thoughts on the game itself.

Dead space impressions

photos will be finding their way on to this blog as soon as i find the cable for my camera, its in my stuff somewhere, but again i am distracted by a video game.

i had picked up dead space for the PS3 a while ago (one of my co-workers sold it to me when e got rid of his PS3) but i never got around to playing it, i was to enamored with fallout 3 to care about anything else.

i found the game packed in one of my boxes and i figured i would give it a spin, I heard so many good things about it, now the game does draw some similar comparisons between Event Horizon and perhaps Sunshine, but its hard not to compare this to them since the survival horror genre doesn't really stretch out in to space all that often. Also, i love both those movies, so one would assume that i would enjoy a video game with similar themes?

Yes

despite some initial issues with camera angles this game had me from the get go, the atmosphere is very spooky, the ambient noise is incredible, and the story is extremely compelling. the only issue i have so far is that the main character seems very wooden and stoic, perhaps a bit too much for my taste.
I am closing in on the end of the game (just started the last chapter) and by then i will have probably a bit more to say about it.

first few weeks part 3

in my off time i managed to try surfing, it wasn't a resounding success but i had fun anyway, i have also spent my free time roaming around and getting used to the area i am now living.

it seems all of long beach was designed with the car in mind. it takes an impossible amount of time to get anywhere on foot and the public transportation system is about as reliable as an X-Box 360.

i am so glad my stuff arrived, and mostly in one piece, since my bike was in with all the stuff so that should make getting around a bit easier, but i think i will be looking in to getting a car.

first few weeks pt 2

it seems to be flying by so fast, school started up and i was introduced to the rest of the grads, then i proceed to attempt to get my SSID so i might get my stipend for my studies. now i have had to deal with loads of bureaucratic bullshit in my day but this takes the cake!

to register i need to pay my fees then i can apply for my SSID and get proof that i am registered, to pay my fees i need my student loan, to get my student loan i need proof that i am registered, to get proof that i am registered i need to pay my fees. i ran around campus for almost two days straight in this loop, getting the same fucking answers from everyone.

on the upside one very reasonable human noted my plight and helped me out.

now i guess i am on the right path... hopefully i will be able to get everything squared away

first few weeks pt 1

It was my intent to start this Blog about two weeks ago when i first arrived In California, but sometimes i can get quite distracted by simple things, this time it was fallout 1 and 2 that was distracting me from telling the world about my glorious travels from the great city that is Montreal to the other end of the Continent.

so in brief, i will sum up the trip

Flight leaves burlington at 11:30 (late) arrives in Philly with just enough time for me to run across two terminals to catch my connecting flight to Phoenix, Transfer in Phoenix land in Long Beach an hour later, get my luggage and find a cab to go to my new home. open my luggage when i get home to make sure nothing was broken or taken by airport security because it was "Dangerous"
everything is fine!

the next week was spent, as i said earlier, playing fallout and wondering when the rest of my stuff would arrive.

oh and dealing with the piles of bureaucratic bullshit that needs to get done just so i can register for school.

More to come...
