sometimes we fill the apt with baloons

So I am was working on these glass gobos for central city, and the designer wanted it to look like a room was filled with balloons, well after looking online for somthing, I decided to fill the apt with baloons and just take the photos myself and shop them to be what she needed.
and of course with an awesome silly girl like holly she was more than willing to help me with the fun.

getting the hang of Isadora

I have run through a good chunk of the tutorials so far. Its a pretty awesome program, and gives the user lots of control over what is happening on the screen.

Congradulations my Dovetail

I am so happy for you Holly, I know this summer is going to be difficult with both of us being gone, but I look forward to the next year together, and the wonderful love we share.
I am so proud of you, and cant wait until I am standing in that same spot with those robes on, the future for us has never looked so bright.
werevever we end up afterwards i know its going to be amazing, because i know you will be by my side.

power failure at 4:00 am

so we lost power in our buiding last night, at around 4 am.
I decided to take the opertunity to get a cool shot of Holly standing in the hall back lit by the emergency lights.

what i should have done..

sometimes i wish i became an austronaut, but sadly no one goes in to space anymore.
why you ask?
well I just want to know how light reacts on diffrent planets.
is it going to be the same?, or is part of the way everything looks on earth is because of our atmosphere?
the pictures of the moon and mars i have seen, but what of everywere else.

I liked the way it flowed, I had 3 different cuts of this running on 5 different tvs. the Tvs surrounded a Chair. I think it looked good, would like to tweak the movie a bit though

who to work with

I said Before one of the things you learn in grad school is who you want to work with.
well over the past few weeks i have been working on this movie with the Actors, and I realized that i really like working with funny people, like people with a sense of humor.
perhaps thats why working on this film has been so much fun.

The more I edit, the more I develop an apreciation for film, and i am not so bad at it.
Perhaps when I grow weary of the stress related to the theatre i can move on to a more permanent medium

When to use projections in a performance piece

This has been happening a lot, and i feel partially responsible (What with the fact that i am slowly becoming a video designer) but there are some times when using projections is probably unnecessary. so here is a helpful guide if you are a director and are considering using projections for your next performance of Rosecrans and Guildenstern are dead, or you have an epic dance piece and you want a video to create scenery, either way you should ask yourself these questions before you go and shell out the time and money required to get video added to your show .
1. Are the projections going to help tell the story? 
Seriously stop and think about this one. when those videos go up on screen how are they going to move the plot along? this is probably the most important question that no one wants to address, and if they arent helping tell the story then whats the point? well it could be used as digital scenery....
 
2. Are the projections being used as digital scenery?
Ok so there's a Giant painting that's supposed to be on the stage that the actors constantly refer to, and you don't have a good scenic painter. So you grab a projector and throw that painting up on a screen, makes perfect sense, painting is on when its supposed to be surface is blank when the painting is not supposed to be there.  when it becomes a problem is when the play takes place in Paris and there's a projected backdrop of the Efiel tower. not only does this stink of cheesy vaudevillian theatre, except the cheesy flat is replaced with a projection, but it basically clubs the audience over the head with the setting.  this is unnecessary and borderline insulting, the audience has an imagination, the actors should deliver a performance well enough that the audience will suspend disbelief  that they are in a theatre (and if they don't well you have another problem on your hands that no amount of video will solve) so why would you need to illustrate the location so obviously?

3. Are the projections being used to Club the audience with a message?
Now lets say you have a show thats all about death, and for some reason you dont think the audience is going to understand, what its all about, so you get some projections and throw them up on a screen and make them pictures of people in hospitals and graves and whatnot. this represents a huge problem. first off you aren't giving the audience due credit, and if the audience cant actually understand the piece, well then perhaps you should re-think the shows you're doing.  Last i checked, and feel free to correct me if i am wrong, but chances are if you are going to the theatre to see a show, you don't have the IQ of a Jersey shore cast member, Or you are being forced to watch it for some class, but either way if you treat your audience like idiots, well dont pick plays that are too cerebral. and if you need projections to help the audience understand whats going on, well pick a more accessible piece of work

What is fun to do

Here is one of my Vision projects, I had tons of fun making this.
I wish we had more assignments like this
Unfortunatly due to stupid music laws you might not be able to view this in your country,
but either way it was pretty cool

the theatre dept is an amazing place

Early in the morning, say around 8 am, if there is sun out, and the wind is blowing, the light shimmers off the wall near the fountain in an amazing way, i think this somthing that can only happen at this time of day, perhaps it is a little gift for having to be up so early.

this would be fun

so i found out about this recently.
Well to be fair i already knew it existed sort of, since i worked with Mark Sussman in the past and he used to do lots of toy theatre back in the day.
I think it would be loads of fun to collaborate with a scenic artist to make a toy theatre performance. to me doing something like this for the design expo would blow people away.

what you learn from grad school

I think the Most important thing you learn from Grad school, is Who you will work with in the future. Or more importantly who you wont work with in the future.
